It’s called the Genesis because it was inspired by our first product, our DIY sandal kit, and one of mankind’s first footwear designs. Then, of course, we updated it with the experience we’ve had and feedback we’ve gotten, from making barefoot-friendly sandals since 2009.

Caring for your Xero Shoes

To clean your Xero Shoes, hand wash with warm water, mild soap and allow them to air dry.
We do not recommend putting your Xeros in the washing machine or dryer.

What’s the difference between the Genesis, Cloud, and your DIY kits?

The Genesis and Cloud are ready-to-wear barefoot-inspired sandals. For our kits you, well, have to make them 😉

Both products use our exclusive FeelTrue® rubber, the only outsole product made specifically for barefoot style sandals.

The Genesis’s sole is 5mm thick, compared to either 4mm or 6mm on the DIY kits. The Cloud has 3mm of Barefoam™ in the forefoot for a bit of extra comfort and lighter weight (the Clouds float!)

The Cloud and Genesis have a toe loop, so there’s no knot under your foot.

The Cloud and Genesis have a simpler lacing system with a patented adjustment technology that lets you get a perfect fit in just seconds.

The ankle holes on the Cloud and Genesis are raised off the ground so the lace can’t abrade.

Why don’t you use leather or hemp laces?

You can use almost anything for lacing huaraches.

In my testing, though, I found some issues with hemp and leather that I didn’t like:

Both leather and hemp tended to stretch, especially when moist
Both leather and hemp tighten and stiffen when they dry
Both leather and hemp wear out faster than our polyester laces
Leather is much more expensive
Most leather laces are rectangular, and the edges can dig into your skin
Leather, isn’t vegan (for those who care about that)
Leather and hemp don’t give you as many fun color choices

The 100% polyester cord we use is strong, light, and doesn’t stretch or tighten, especially when wet.

Also, I prefer the “slip-on” method of tying which works best with a round lace, rather than a flat one (like leather).

Needless to say, you can replace the lace we send you with whatever you like.

Esperaba más durabilidad, en 5 meses de uso diario quedaron devastadas, los cordajes rotos del uso y la suela quedó lisa en algunas partes y apenas a unos milímetros de hacerse un agujero. Para el precio que tienen esperaba bastante más. Le pongo 3 estrellas porque al estar en garantía me enviaron otro, aunque esperaba que me enviaran el mismo modelo y me enviaron unas zapatillas de en vez de unas sandalias,pero al menos acertaron con la talla! Se agradece que el servicio de garantía sea coherente cuando el material no ha estado a la altura. Mientras que las usé y aún no se habían deteriorado me dieron muy buen resultado,e costó un poco acostumbrarme al cordaje entre los dedos del pié pero luego eran realmente cómodas, incluso las usé para alguna caminata suave por la montaña con buenas sensaciones, lástima que su duración no haya sido más larga.

well designed Genesis sandals

Great shoes but a pity that they are made in China which doesn't have as ethical production practices as in N.America and Europe. I think the price doesn't reflect a product produced in China but rather a Western country where the workers have fairer pay and rights.
